Dermorphin is a naturally occurring heptapeptide opioid originally isolated from the skin of Phyllomedusa frogs. It has a strong and selective affinity for μ-opioid receptors, which are involved in pain signaling and other nervous-system functions. Research has primarily investigated dermorphin for its analgesic (pain-relieving), opioid-receptor, and neurobiological effects, including how its unusual peptide structure influences receptor activity. Most of the scientific literature concerns experimental pharmacology and animal research.
