Melanotan II is a synthetic peptide that mimics alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a hormone involved in pigmentation, appetite, and other bodily functions. It binds to melanocortin receptors and increases melanin production, leading to skin darkening.
It is also associated with effects on appetite regulation, fat metabolism, and sexual function due to its action on the melanocortin system.
Because of its strong activity, it can significantly increase tanning response, but it does not remove the need for sun protection and may carry risks related to dosing and side effects.
